“আমার স্বামী একটু অস্বাভাবিক মানুষ। জন্ম থেকেই কথা বলতে কষ্ট হয়, সাধারণ মানুষের মত হাঁটতেও পারেন না। মাঝে মাঝে একদম শিশুর মতো ব্যবহার করেন। আমাদের বিয়ের কত বছর হলো সেই খবর রাখিনি, তবে বছর পনের’র কম হয়নি মনে হয়।
অনেক বছর আগে কোন এক বৈশাখ মাসে আমার সৎ মা টাকার লোভে আমার বিয়ে দেয় আমার স্বামীর কাছে। আমার শ্বশুরবাড়ি গ্রামে বেশ অবস্থাপন্ন এক পরিবার ছিলো। সেই লোভেই আমার সৎ মা জোর করেই আমাকে সেই বাড়িতে বউ করে পাঠালো। বিয়ের রাতেই আমার স্বামী চমকে উঠলো নতুন একটা মানুষ’কে তার সাথে দেখে। সে কী চিৎকার চেঁচামেচি! শেষ পর্যন্ত বাড়ির সবাই মিলে তাকে বেঁধে রাখলো। আর আমি কাঁপতে কাঁপতে অজ্ঞান হয়ে গিয়েছিলাম। সেই ছিলো আমার সাথে তার প্রথম দেখা, প্রথম দিনের অভিজ্ঞতা। এরপর কিছুদিন আমি ভয়ের তাড়নায় জ্বরে ভুগি। জ্বরের ঘোরে একদিন অনুভব করি, এক জোড়া হাত আনাড়ি হাতে চেষ্টা করছে আমার মাথায় জলপট্টি দেবার, মাথায় হাত বুলিয়ে দেবার। ঠিক সেদিন আমি মনে মনে আল্লাহ’কে ধন্যবাদ দেই কারণ মানুষটা শারীরিকভাবে অস্বাভাবিক হতে পারে, কিন্তু মানসিকভাবে আর দশটা মানুষের চাইতে হাজারো গুণ ভালো।

জীবনে অনেক প্রতারিত হয়েছি। শ্বশুরের মৃত্যুর পর তার ভাইবোনের প্রতারণা করে সবকিছু থেকে আমাদের বঞ্চিত করেছে। সব হারিয়ে তাকে নিয়ে আমি শহরে আসি। এইখানে কাজ করি, সারাক্ষণ খুব ভয় হয় সে কী করছে, কীভাবে থাকছে। তবে এখন মনে হয় সেও বুঝে গেছে আমাদের জীবনধারা। তাই আমাকে এখন আর আগের মতো বিরক্ত করেনা। আমাদের কোন সন্তান নেই। তবে এই নিয়েও আক্ষেপ হয়না এখন আর! সবার জীবনে তো আর সবকিছু হয় না!” - একটি তৈরি পোশাক কারখানার কর্মী।

I have been deceived many times in life. After my father-in-law’s death, my brother and sister-in-laws took away all the property for themselves. I took my husband with me and came to this city. I have been working here ever since. I only worry about him. I wonder what he is doing at home and how he is. Now he has understood our flow of life in the city. That is why he does not bother me as much anymore. We do not have any children. However, it still does not affect me anymore.
